February 2011 Meeting

The Brisbane group of Southern Cross Quilters had
their first meeting of the year yesterday.
There was lots of chatting as well as sewing, and of
course show and tell.


Julie and Sharon had
a stash of bags to
show off.

Julie had also
completed this lovely
star quilt and had
finished the top of her
candied hexagons quilt,
as well as having some
blocks which she was
going to make into a
table runner.

Aldona was working on
this beautiful mattress
cover for her daughters
new dog Dora.


















Gayle was working on
some needle turn
applique.






























Pamela had made this
skirt, as well as some
mug rugs.

She also showed off
this beautiful needle
case which had been
given to her by a friend.

And...last but not least

Margaret had this lovely

little mug bag.

The next meeting will be

at the Quilters Store on

Brisbane Get Together 12 November 2010

Apologies in advance for the state of the blog. My camera is doing strange things and seems to have recorded all the photos to its clipboard rather than the memory card and they don't seem to be the best quality, plus my hotmail just got hacked so I am hedging my technological bets this evening and keeping it as simple as possible

A dedicated group of SCQuilters met at the Quilters Store on Saturday for our last get together of the year.

We all brought a plate and had a lovely spread for lunch. I suspect I exceeded my recommended calorie in take for the day just in banoffie pie.

We had a secret Santa with everyone receiving a small gift.

And of course we did lots of sewing and talking and then had show and tell.

Lynell was working on this cute little stitchery.

This was my knitting. A scarf I am making.

And also had this newly finished red and cream quilt to show off.

Eldona showed us a Christmas tree quilt she is making.

As well as this nearly finished baby quilt.

Julie brought along some christmassy items

Sharon had a bag.

Margaret had an array of calico bags she was decorating for her market stall.

Apologies to all concerned, but I can't remember whether the following were part of the show and tell or the secret Santa... but they are very cute.

Next meeting will be in February next year. Same place, same time, second weekend in February.

October 2010 Get Together

The usual dedicated bunch of Queensland Scquilters met on Saturday

for our November meeting. As usual there was much chatter and

merriment and a vast amount of show and tell. I don't know how

everyone gets time to be so creative.
(Apologies if the format is slightly off today, it keeps spacing it out all over the place)

Julie brought along a

bag set she recently

made.











Sharon had a pink and purple quilt made for her daughters

birthday... and also an adorable little round bag.

Robyn showed off a teddy bear quilt as well as two bags.

Sharron was working on an embroidered wool top and Shaaryn

showed off a beautiful yellow quilt.

My contribution to the show and

tell was an advent calendar and a

set of quilted place mats and table

runner.

In addition to this

Pamela demonstrated

how to make covered

and embroidered

buttons and a few of the

ladies had a go.

Our next meeting will be

13th November,

10am-3pm, Quilters and

Embroiders Store, Evans

Road in Brisbane.

Coming up...

At our October and November meetings some generous souls have agreed to do some demonstrations/mini tutorials.

At the October meeting you will have a chance to see how these beautiful embroidered buttons are made.

Running across the October and November meetings you will have a chance to see how this cute little bag is put together.

There will be no meetings in December and January but we will reconvene, same place, same time in February 2011.

A fantastic time was had by all at our September get together in Brisbane, though it did get a little risque there for a time after the first Fokker joke was told.



Not everyone had show and tell, but there was still plenty to look at. Sharryn brought along two finished quilts.




Pamela outdid everyone with three.


Sharron bought along this one which was from the same swop as one of Pamelas.


Jan showed off an embroidered quilt top she was working on.


And last but not least, Julie showed off her candied hexagons.
