August 2011 Meeting

Another great get together for the Brisbane Scquilters. As usual lots of chatting and laughing and a little bit of sewing, and just a spot of table dancing. Here is a photo of some of them hard at it.

For show and tell, Sharon had this gorgeous wool pin cushion.

This lovely journal cover...

And this very beautiful daisy quilt.

Robyn has this very handy thread tidy...

and a very cute teddy bear mug.

Pamela had a spectacular wall hanging made from material she hand dyed herself.

As well as the next one of the Sue Spargo blocks she is working on.

Julie had this lovely mini wall hanging...

and this cute wall hanging will ballet dancers...

and these amazing cards.

My contribution to show and tell was this wall hanging made for the Queensland Quilters challenge a couple of last year. I just received it back in the mail this week.

Also, this cute little baby outfit I have been knitting.

July 2011 Get together

Lively chat and laughter at this months meeting discussing a recent post to the main list regarding 'Pintastics' with Jan Rhoades producing her lovely beaded and embroidered version of a "Pintastic" which she proudly announced (tongue in cheek) could take 2 different pin sizes and demonstrated its adaptiveness! Next was Shaaryn's multi-storage 'pintastic' which holds all size pins, and scissors, even a tape measure! Not to be outdone, the group erruped with laughter when Robyn showed us her 'needle-tastic'. We enjoyed some creative show and tell as each of us worked on our hand stitching and ate the delicious Date Scones Shaaryn shared with us. Our August meeting will include a tutorial by Karen from The Quilters Store on colouring her quilt labels. Hope to see you then.

May 2011 Scquilters Brisbane Meeting

Hey All,

There is not much show and tell this month. Not because we aren't all very clever and productive just for some reason I wasn't taking a lot of photos. I'm prepared to put it down to post moving house stress and promise you loads more at next month's meeting.

Everyone seemed to have a good time though yesterday and we stayed chatting for so long we barely made it out of the shop before it closed at 3.

Lyn bought along this fantastic hexagon quilt.

Julie had a very lovely mug bag with matching tile.

This gorgeous top is by Margaret.

This very pretty one is Sharron's.

Next month's meeting looks like it clashes with the textile art festival. There has been a suggestion that instead of meeting at the shop we all meet up for a coffee somewhere at the fair. What does everyone think?

April Meeting

Brisbane Scquilters held their monthly meeting yesterday.

Here are Pam, Julie, Margaret and Kathy Miller sewing and chatting (from left to right).

And here are Robyn, Margaret and Lynell, also hard at work.

I was working on some English paper piecing.

Pam was working on these amazing Sue Spargo designed blocks, in wool.

Lynell had this little sampler just finished.

Julie had a covered jar to show off, as well as a little bag.

As well as these four bags all made from a single fat quarter.

Robyn brought along this beautiful bear quilt for show and tell.

This is the back view showing the quilting.

Next meeting is scheduled for 14 May. All are welcome.

Saturday, March 12, 2011

A very dedicated bunch of ladies met at the Quilter's Store on Saturday for the monthly meeting of Southern Cross Quilters in Brisbane.

Since it has been suggested that we actually need photos of us doing stuff, as well as just the show and tell... this one is of me hand piecing a quilt block.

I have set myself the challenge of making all 1000 quilt blocks in this book.

Here are some others I have made so far (my show and tell for the month).
Gail was working on some hand applique, for these very funky blocks using Kaffe Fassett fabrics.
Margaret, who was crocheting some edges for tea towels, showed off two no sew throw rugs, that had several of us planning to make our own.
There was this lovely froggy one.
And a beautiful baby one.
Sharron, seen stitching away here on a lovely, pastel coloured applique block brought this adorable Santa for us to look at.

Julie, who had been as productive as always, had wrapped this jar.

Finished this lovely little, cot quilt.
And was putting a binding on this beautiful quilt.
