Scquilters Queensland Meeting 14 August 2010

Hi All,

Lots of thank yous are due to Shaaryn who has been updating the blog about our meetings up to this point.

I will be taking over the blogging, and will endeavour to do my best. However I am new to the world of blogging, so go easy on me, I expect plenty of stuff ups and weird random stuff to happen to the blog as I go along.

We had a great meeting on Saturday. In attendance were myself, Lynell, Robyn, Julie, Pamela, Christine, Marion, Margaret, Shaaryn, Sharon and Aldona. Julie did a demonstration of the back basted needle turn applique technique, which was fantastic as it seems to take a bit of the time and effort out of the applique process.

Lynell showed off a minature quilt from a block swap with Pat Weir Smith from WA. The swap took place in 1999 and the miniature top was done then, she has recently added borders and quilted it.

Robyn brought along an adorable bag made from an Ella and Skysie designs pattern.

Julie had finished a red and black childs quilt, with a matching back, for which she brought the fabric after the last meeting....

...she also had a stitching tote from a Cath Walker design.

Pamela showed off a piece she started in a Sue Spargo class which had leaves made from cotton, ultrasuede, wool and silk appliqued onto wool and embroidered and embelished. She also had a pile of georgeous, bright candied hexagons.

Christine was working on some blocks from Roseville Album by Kim McLean.

Marion brought along two completed quilts for us to look at.

As did Aldona.

Margaret was working on the life is beautiful block of the month by Helen Stubbings, and she showed us a very lovely African ladies bag.

Shaaryn had a cute project bag as well as all her Dear Jane blocks, on which she is making excellent progress.

And finally I was working on my version of U is for unicorn, based on the Eileen Campbell book.

Until next month.

Helen
